St. Joseph's Catholic College

A Welcome from the Principal

Welcome to St Joseph’s Catholic College. When speaking to prospective parents I usually start with the question what do we want for our children? Our answer in St Joseph’s is that we want them to be happy and we want them to achieve to their full potential. Our aim is to provide a caring and supportive environment in which each individual can progress academically, spiritually and culturally.

Sixth Form Consultation

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you to those who attended the Parent and Carer Forums in March and to those of you who responded to the consultation on the proposal to close the sixth form at St Joseph’s. The consultation began on 16th of March and ended on the 2nd of May. In total 32 responses were received by the governing body and they were considered at their extraordinary meeting on 8th May 2017.

Governors recognise the strength of feeling expressed by parents (17) and others (15). Following consideration of the points raised in the consultation the governing body has decided to move forward with the proposal not to run new sixth form courses in September 2017. However, the decision reached unanimously is to suspend indefinitely the sixth form provision at St Joseph’s rather than close it forever. This means that the situation will be kept under review by governors. The current Year 12 will proceed into Year 13 in September 2017.

Our letter sent on the 13th March gave the reasons behind the consultation and the fact that it has been done with great regret. On balance we believe that changing the age range from 11 - 18 to 11 - 16 will allow resources to be focused on improving the learning experiences and outcomes for these students. Our aim is to become an outstanding 11 - 16 Catholic College, and to do so, we believe that we must concentrate our resources on that age range for the time being.

Yours sincerely,

Canon John Cunningham & Paul Hughes

Born for This Performance

On Friday, 31st March 2017  at St Peter’s Church Swindon,  students from the College took part in ‘Born for This’  unique and powerful telling of the Easter story that brings the Stations of the Cross to life. The day was run by Clifton Diocese Youth Ministry, who helped the students prepare for the production in just one day! The full article can be read on the Clifton Diocese website.

Exam Support

We would like to join as a community the families of those students that will be taking exams in the next few months. We would like to offer our support and prayers by holding a mass. This will be held in the College Chapel at 3:30pm on Monday 8 May 2017.  We would be very happy if you could join us.
We understand that this is short notice, and you may not be able to attend.  If you would like to send in or e-mail your intentions (E-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), they will be included in the mass.
Kind regards
